NDMA Forecasts Intermittent Pre-Monsoon Rains Across Pakistan Until July 3

NDMA Forecasts Intermittent Pre-Monsoon Rains Across Pakistan Until July 3

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast intermittent pre-monsoon rainfall across several parts of Pakistan from June 28 to July 3. The authority has also warned people about possible weather-related hazards, especially in the country’s northern mountainous regions.

According to NDMA, the combination of high temperatures and expected rainfall could speed up glacier melting. This may cause a rapid increase in water levels in rivers, streams, and other water channels across Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The authority said the changing weather conditions could increase the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), flash floods, and landslides. These hazards may affect several vulnerable districts during the forecast period.

Residents, tourists, and travellers have been urged to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel to high-risk areas. Districts that may face greater risks include Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Skardu, Shigar, Ghanche, Kharmang, Astore, Diamer, Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, and Swat.

The NDMA advised people to stay away from rivers, streams, glacial lakes, and riverbanks whenever possible. Citizens have also been encouraged to report any unusual changes in water levels or weather conditions to local authorities without delay.

Officials warned that glacier melting can happen rapidly when heavy rainfall combines with intense heat. This can lead to sudden flooding that may threaten nearby communities, roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure.

The authority also directed all Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to remain on high alert. Emergency response teams have been instructed to ensure preparedness and maintain coordination in case weather conditions worsen.

Local administrations have been asked to monitor vulnerable locations closely and remain ready to respond to any emergency. Rescue teams and relevant departments are expected to stay prepared throughout the forecast period.

People planning to visit northern tourist destinations have been advised to check weather updates before travelling. Authorities recommend following official advisories and avoiding unnecessary risks in mountainous regions.

The latest weather forecast highlights the importance of public awareness during the pre-monsoon season. With rainfall expected in several regions, officials continue to urge citizens to take precautionary measures and cooperate with local authorities to stay safe.
