The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning for extreme heat and potential heatwaves from March to September. Authorities urge citizens and local agencies to remain vigilant during this period.
The NDMA highlighted concerns over rising temperatures, melting glaciers, and the possibility of severe flooding in northern regions. Areas such as Ahmedabad, Faizabad, Gulmit, and the Ashkoman Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan are considered at high risk.
Several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Kumrat, have also been identified as flood-prone due to seasonal glacial runoff. The authority emphasized that early preparedness is crucial to minimize damage and protect lives.
In response to the alert, the NDMA has instructed Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), district administrations, and rescue teams to implement emergency measures.
