The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has imposed a fine of Rs 10 million on the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) over accidents reported during 2023-2024.
On Monday, NEPRA conducted a hearing regarding the incidents linked to FESCO. In its verdict, the authority stated that FESCO failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the mishaps. NEPRA emphasized that timely actions by FESCO could have prevented these accidents.
The regulatory body directed FESCO to implement strict protective measures in its operational areas. FESCO has been ordered to submit the fine within 15 days.
In another decision, NEPRA approved the Central Power Purchasing Agency–Guaranteed (CPPA-G) petition regarding the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for September 2025. The authority announced a relief of Rs 0.4812 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which will be passed on to consumers in November 2025 electricity bills.
The FCA adjustment will also apply to K-Electric (KE) consumers under the tariff rationalization mechanism approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on August 19, 2025. Any difference between KE’s FCA and the notified FCA will be covered by a government subsidy, NEPRA clarified.
Fuel Charges Adjustments reflect changes in global fuel prices used for power generation and variations in the generation mix. These adjustments are scrutinized and approved by NEPRA before being incorporated into consumer bills.
According to NEPRA’s notification, the September FCA applies to all consumer categories except lifeline consumers, domestic protected consumers, electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS), and prepaid electricity consumers who have opted for prepaid tariffs.
These decisions highlight NEPRA’s role in regulating electricity companies and ensuring accountability while providing fair relief to consumers.
