Authorities in Pakistan have blocked nine fake websites that were operating under the name of NADRA in an online fraud scheme. The websites were reportedly designed to steal personal data and sensitive information from citizens.
The National Computer Emergency Response Team (National CERT), working together with NADRA, launched a crackdown after discovering the fraudulent platforms. Officials said the fake websites were pretending to offer services related to the National Database and Registration Authority.
According to a cyber security alert issued by National CERT, the websites were attempting to collect personal details from unsuspecting users. These details included identity information, contact numbers, and other sensitive data.
Authorities said that so far nine fake NADRA websites have been identified and blocked. The action is part of ongoing efforts to protect citizens from online fraud and identity theft.
Officials have also urged the public to remain cautious while using online services. Citizens were advised to verify the website domain before entering any personal information.
The cyber alert emphasized that official NADRA services are available only through the government’s authorized website. Any other platform claiming to provide these services should be treated with suspicion.
Experts say cyber criminals often create fake websites that closely resemble official government portals. These sites are designed to trick users into believing they are legitimate.
Once a user enters personal information, criminals may use the data for fraud or identity theft. This can lead to serious financial and legal problems for victims.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid clicking on suspicious links shared through email, SMS, or social media. Such links may redirect users to fake websites designed to collect personal data.
Officials also encouraged people to report any suspicious activity related to NADRA services. Prompt reporting can help authorities identify fraudulent websites and prevent further damage.
Cyber security experts say awareness is the most effective defense against online scams. Citizens should always check the authenticity of a website before sharing personal information.
The National CERT said it will continue monitoring the internet for similar threats. Additional measures may be taken if more fraudulent websites using the NADRA name are discovered.
Authorities emphasized that protecting citizens’ personal data remains a top priority. They urged the public to stay alert and rely only on official platforms for government services.
