The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has strongly criticized Israel over a recent political move. The OIC condemned Israel for recognizing Somaliland as an independent state. The condemnation was issued through an official resolution.
The resolution was adopted during the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. The meeting took place in Jeddah. It was held at the request of Somalia to discuss the situation. Member states expressed serious concern over the development.
According to the OIC, Israel’s decision violates international principles. The organization said the move breaches Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also undermines Somalia’s nationally recognized borders. The resolution clearly rejected Israel’s action and called it unacceptable.
The OIC reaffirmed its full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia. It expressed strong solidarity with the Somali government and its people. The organization stressed that Somalia’s unity must be respected by all states. It urged the international community to uphold international law.
During the same session, the OIC adopted another resolution on the Middle East conflict. It stated that lasting peace depends on Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Palestinian territories. These areas have been under occupation since 1967. The resolution also supported the Palestinian right to self-determination.
The OIC called for maintaining and strengthening the ceasefire. It demanded an end to Israeli military actions against Palestinians. The organization also urged progress toward the next phase of the ceasefire plan. This step follows relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Meanwhile, the breakaway region of Somaliland rejected allegations made by Somalia’s president. Officials denied plans to resettle Palestinians or host an Israeli military base. They said such claims were false and misleading.
Israel recently became the first country to recognize Somaliland as an independent state. The announcement sparked protests in different parts of Somalia. Many citizens viewed the move as a direct threat to national unity.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed the issue in a media interview. He claimed intelligence reports showed secret agreements with Israel. These reportedly included hosting a military base and resettling Palestinians. Somaliland’s foreign ministry rejected these claims. It denied agreeing to resettlement or military cooperation.
Tensions remain high as regional and international reactions continue to unfold.
