Pakistan Air Force Drills to Temporarily Shut Airspace Over Lahore and Karachi

Pakistan has announced temporary restrictions in parts of its Airspace as the Pakistan Air Force begins large-scale military exercises. The restrictions were confirmed through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued to pilots and airlines.

According to aviation authorities, specific flight information regions in Lahore and Karachi will experience temporary closures. These measures are necessary to ensure safety during the ongoing military drills.

Officials said the Airspace restrictions will remain in effect from March 3 to March 31. During this period, commercial flight operations may face disruptions at different times.

Major airports likely to be affected include Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore and Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. Operations at New Islamabad International Airport may also experience indirect impact due to route adjustments.

Authorities explained that several international flights were already scheduled during this period. Reports indicate that more than 70 international flights were planned as airlines responded to rising regional security concerns.

Many of these flights were expected to operate between Pakistan and destinations in the Middle East. Airlines may now need to change routes or adjust schedules because of restricted Airspace zones.

Travelers could face delays or rescheduled departures in the coming weeks. Aviation officials have advised passengers to check with airlines before heading to the airport.

Cargo operations may also be affected as flight paths change. Airlines may need to use longer routes to avoid restricted areas.

The temporary closure comes during a period of heightened regional tension. Military exchanges involving the United States, Israel, and Iran have already affected aviation routes across the Middle East.

Reports indicate that at least 11 international flights remain grounded in Pakistan due to disruptions in regional Airspace availability. These flights have been unable to continue operations as airlines adjust routes.

One international airline flight remains stranded at Multan Airport. Two other flights are currently grounded at Sialkot Airport.

Airlines are increasingly rerouting flights through Pakistani and Afghan Airspace to avoid restricted Middle Eastern corridors. This shift has caused congestion along alternative flight paths.

Major transit hubs such as Dubai International Airport, Abu Dhabi International Airport, and Hamad International Airport have also faced operational limits. These restrictions have led to cancellations, delays, and increased operational costs for airlines.

Officials say the situation will continue to be monitored. Further adjustments may be announced depending on the progress of the military exercises and regional security conditions.
