PAF Marks 7th Anniversary of Operation Swift Retort — Why It Still Matters Today

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) commemorated the 7th Anniversary of Operation Swift Retort during a ceremony held at Air Headquarters. The event highlighted a significant moment in Pakistan’s modern air warfare history.

Senior officials and personnel gathered to observe the 7th Anniversary of the operation. The ceremony paid tribute to the professionalism, resolve, and preparedness of the Pakistan Air Force.

Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, addressed the gathering. He stated that Pakistan remains a responsible country that seeks peace with honor.

The Air Chief recalled the events that led to Operation Swift Retort seven years ago. He said the aggressor misjudged Pakistan’s determination and military capability. According to him, the challenge to Pakistan’s sovereignty prompted a strong and calculated response.

During his address on the 7th Anniversary, he explained that PAF carried out a measured daylight operation. The response restored credible deterrence despite the adversary having greater numbers.

He also discussed the changing global and regional security environment. The Air Chief said modern warfare is evolving rapidly and requires new strategies and capabilities.

Since March 2021, PAF has focused on modernization and self-reliance. Despite financial limitations, the force has worked to transform into a next-generation air force.

He noted that PAF revised its operational doctrine to meet emerging challenges. Advanced combat and support systems were introduced during this period. These included locally developed unmanned systems, electronic warfare capabilities, and cyber and space assets.

According to the Air Chief, these developments created a unique homegrown multi-domain operational structure. This system allows PAF to respond quickly and effectively to modern threats.

While discussing regional security, he referred to Marka-e-Haq in May 2025. He said Pakistan’s sovereignty was challenged again during that time.

PAF carried out full-spectrum multi-domain operations during that situation. These operations were executed with precision and achieved decisive results.

The Air Chief stated that several advanced platforms were targeted during the conflict. These included Rafale, SU-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, MiG-29, and unmanned aerial systems. Strikes were also carried out deep inside hostile territory.

Air defense systems and command centers were also neutralized during the operations.
