ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the leadership and people of Saudi Arabia on their National Day, highlighting the strength of Pak-Saudi friendship.
President Zardari described the relationship as one of trust, devotion, and deep brotherhood. He noted that the bond is further strengthened by the presence of Islam’s two holiest sites, the Kaaba in Mecca and Masjid-e-Nabwi in Medina. He also praised the cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in defence and security, calling it essential for peace in the region.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Pak-Saudi friendship is historic and enduring. He assured that Pakistan remains committed to preserving and strengthening this unique partnership.
Both leaders’ statements reflect a shared vision of solidarity. In a region often marked by instability, this unity highlights the resilience of ties between Islamabad and Riyadh. The message of brotherhood also reassures citizens of both countries that their connection goes beyond politics and rests on shared faith and mutual respect.
The growing collaboration has also extended into military cooperation. Recently, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a defence agreement that formalizes decades of partnership. This pact is not linked to any single incident but reaffirms a longstanding tradition of mutual support in security matters.
The timing of the agreement comes as Gulf states express concerns about U.S. reliability as a security partner. It also follows Israel’s September 9 airstrikes in Doha, which targeted Hamas leaders during ceasefire talks mediated by Qatar. The strikes drew anger from Arab nations and disrupted regional diplomacy.
Through such steps, both nations are sending a strong message that Pak-Saudi friendship will continue to grow. The partnership remains a cornerstone of regional stability and a symbol of shared values between the two Muslim countries.
