Pakistan has approved a major upgrade in its aviation infrastructure. The Pakistan Airports Authority has allocated over Rs5 billion for modern air traffic control systems. The project will be installed at Karachi and Lahore airports.
Officials said the decision aims to improve safety and efficiency in air operations. The new system will introduce advanced flight management technology. This upgrade is expected to modernize key aviation functions across Pakistan.
According to the authority, a new flight management system will be installed at both airports. It will help improve real-time monitoring of aircraft movements. This will ensure safer and smoother operations in busy airspace.
The Central Development Working Party has already approved the projectโs PC-I. This approval allows Pakistan to move forward with implementation. The system will cover major flight information regions linked to Karachi and Lahore.
Officials explained that the upgraded system will provide continuous guidance to aircraft. It will also improve coordination between air traffic controllers and pilots. This is seen as a major step for aviation safety in Pakistan.
The authority stated that modern systems are necessary due to rising air traffic demand. More flights are operating in and out of Pakistan, increasing pressure on existing systems. The upgrade is designed to handle this growing workload.
The Pakistan Airports Authority is expected to issue an international tender soon. This will allow global companies to participate in the project. Installation work will begin after the selection process is completed.
Once fully implemented, the new system will significantly improve air traffic management in Pakistan. It will also reduce delays and enhance flight safety standards.
Earlier, the Pakistan Airports Authority also introduced passenger service improvements at Islamabad International Airport. A new currency exchange counter was launched in the arrivals area.
Officials said the facility allows travelers to exchange foreign currency upon arrival. This helps passengers obtain local currency quickly and easily.
