Pakistanโs Economic Coordination Committee, chaired by Finance Minister, has approved over Rs 7 billion in additional funds for the countryโs armed forces.
The approved additional funds come as a technical supplementary grant and are separate from the overall defence budget. The total allocation amounts to Rs 7.081 billion.
Of this amount, Rs 2 billion has been allocated to the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme in Punjab. The remaining Rs 5.081 billion will be directed to defence services, strengthening operational and administrative capacities.
Officials said the allocation of additional funds reflects the governmentโs focus on both national security and development projects. The Economic Coordination Committee reviewed the requirements and approved the grant after careful consideration.
The defence portion of the supplementary grant is expected to cover essential operational needs and support ongoing programs within the armed forces. Meanwhile, the funds for the SDG Achievement Programme in Punjab will assist projects in health, education, and infrastructure.
Finance Ministry officials emphasized that the approval of additional funds does not affect the already sanctioned defence budget. It is intended to meet immediate financial requirements and support priority projects without delaying ongoing operations.
Economic analysts say that such supplementary grants allow the government to maintain both national security readiness and development initiatives simultaneously. They note that timely allocation of funds is critical for the smooth functioning of defence and social programs.
The decision by the Economic Coordination Committee highlights the governmentโs dual approach to balancing fiscal responsibility with strategic needs. Officials confirmed that proper monitoring mechanisms will be in place to ensure transparent use of the additional funds.
This move comes amid ongoing discussions about national security priorities and development funding, showing the governmentโs intent to address urgent financial requirements while adhering to budgetary guidelines..
