Pakistan-Bangladesh Flights Resume After 14-Year Hiatus

KARACHI: Air travel between Pakistan-Bangladesh resumed after a 14-year gap, marking a historic moment for both countries. A Biman Air flight from Dhaka safely landed at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport carrying 149 passengers.

The flight’s arrival was celebrated with a traditional water salute. Airport officials and passengers welcomed the occasion with a special ceremony, including a cake-cutting event to mark the revival of direct flights.

The flight departed from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport and landed in Karachi without incident. Passengers expressed excitement, saying the new connection will make travel much easier for business, tourism, and visiting family members.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori and Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Saqib Sadaqat attended the ceremony. Both officials emphasized the significance of restoring direct air links after more than a decade. Governor Tesori said the resumption signals more than just aviation cooperation, noting opportunities for stronger trade, cultural exchange, and broader ties between Pakistan-Bangladesh.

Biman Air plans to operate two weekly flights between Karachi and Dhaka. Tickets for the second flight have already seen strong sales, indicating high demand and enthusiasm from travelers. Officials said flights will provide convenient options for citizens of both countries and support economic and tourism activities.

The resumption of Pakistan-Bangladesh flights comes after years of geopolitical tension that limited direct air travel. Governor Tesori remarked, “Today, after many years, conspiracies have come to an end,” highlighting the positive shift in bilateral relations.

Passengers also noted the practical benefits of the new service. Business travelers expect faster access between key cities, while families anticipate easier visits. Airlines have assured strict safety protocols will be followed for all flights.

With direct air travel restored, both countries look forward to stronger engagement in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Authorities hope this historic step will pave the way for deeper cooperation and closer people-to-people ties between Pakistan-Bangladesh.
