Pakistan Urges Diplomacy Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Pakistan is actively engaging regional and international partners to promote restraint and diplomacy amid escalating Middle East tensions.

Speaking at a weekly briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan has consistently called for respect for sovereignty, adherence to international law, and renewed dialogue to prevent further escalation in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently departed for a one-day official visit to Saudi Arabia. He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and is expected to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss peace and security amid ongoing conflicts.

The Foreign Office emphasized that Pakistan has condemned attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran and subsequent retaliatory strikes on Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE. These attacks, officials said, violate sovereignty and could further destabilize the region.

Ambassador Andrabi expressed concern over attacks targeting Tรผrkiye and Azerbaijan, warning they could widen the conflict and undermine international law.

Since the escalation began on February 28, Pakistanโ€™s leadership has been engaged in intensive diplomatic efforts. Prime Minister Sharif held phone conversations with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, Tรผrkiye, Lebanon, Malaysia, and Azerbaijan to coordinate measures aimed at de-escalation.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has maintained close contact with regional and international counterparts, including Iranโ€™s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The focus has been on dialogue and peaceful resolution of the crisis.

Pakistan confirmed two nationals lost their lives in the UAE during the hostilities. Missions in the UAE facilitated repatriation and provided consular support to the bereaved families. Crisis Management Units have been activated, and facilitation desks, helplines, and registration portals have been established for stranded citizens.

Ambassador Andrabi stressed Pakistanโ€™s role in advocating three key principles: respect for sovereignty, adherence to the UN Charter and international law, and renewed diplomatic engagement.

He also highlighted concerns about South Asia, including recent uranium supply agreements between Canada and India, warning that selective exceptions could destabilize global non-proliferation and regional security.

Pakistan continues to call for restraint and constructive dialogue as Middle East tensions remain high, reaffirming its commitment to regional peace and stability.

Officials warned that the ongoing crisis requires coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation and protect civilian lives amid continuing Middle East tensions.
