Pakistan Day Parade Cancelled as Government Raises Concerns Over Gulf Situation

The federal government has announced that the Pakistan Day Parade will not be held this year due to ongoing austerity measures linked to the Gulf crisis. The decision was shared in an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday.

Pakistan Day is observed every year on March 23 as a national holiday. The day is usually marked with a grand Parade, military flypasts, and cultural celebrations across the country. However, authorities have decided to cancel the Parade and related events this year due to economic challenges.

According to the statement, the decision was made in light of the ongoing Gulf oil crisis. Rising fuel prices and economic pressure have forced the government to adopt strict cost-saving measures. As part of these steps, the Pakistan Day Parade and other ceremonies will not take place.

Instead, the day will be observed in a simple manner. Officials said the celebrations will be limited to a flag hoisting ceremony. The event will be held with dignity and respect, reflecting the importance of the occasion.

The government has also introduced several austerity measures in recent days. These include reducing the working week for government employees to four days. Work-from-home policies have also been implemented to reduce fuel consumption. In addition, schools have been temporarily closed to help save energy.

Pakistan relies heavily on oil and gas imports from Gulf countries. Due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, fuel supply has become a major concern. Naval escorts were recently provided to fuel vessels to ensure safe delivery.

The rise in global oil prices has also affected local fuel costs. Petrol and diesel prices have increased, adding pressure on the public. At the same time, thousands of people have returned to Pakistan from neighboring Iran due to security concerns.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation. During the meeting, he directed officials to improve the petroleum import system. He stressed that all institutions must remain ready to handle any emergency.

Officials informed the meeting that fuel supplies are currently stable. They said Pakistan has sufficient oil reserves for March and plans are in place for April. The situation is being closely monitored to avoid any shortages.
