Pakistan to Celebrate 2026 as the ‘Year of Quaid-e-Azam’

Pakistan will officially mark 2026 as the “Year of Quaid-e-Azam” to honor the 150th birth anniversary of the country’s founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, on Monday.

The declaration came during a meeting of the National Committee, which discussed proposals and ideas for national-level events to commemorate Quaid-e-Azam’s life and leadership. The committee reviewed initiatives highlighting his services and contributions to Pakistan’s creation and development.

In addition to Quaid-e-Azam, the committee also considered activities to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The poet and philosopher played a significant role in inspiring the vision that eventually led to Pakistan’s independence.

Speaking at the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of celebrating these historic milestones meaningfully. He said the events should reflect the values and vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. The celebrations aim to inspire patriotism, unity, and a renewed commitment to the principles on which Pakistan was founded.

To implement the plans, the minister announced the formation of a sub-committee. This body will finalize the detailed programme of events, activities, and initiatives for the year-long celebrations. It has been directed to submit its recommendations within five days. Following this, further decisions will be made at the national level.

Officials said the observance of 2026 as the “Year of Quaid-e-Azam” will include educational, cultural, and commemorative events across Pakistan. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the celebrations to honor the legacy of the nation’s founding father.
