In a major counterterrorism operation, Pakistan forces have killed 22 terrorists linked to the Indian proxy group, Fitna al Khwarij, in Bannu. The intelligence-based operation took place on November 20 following a tip-off about the militantsโ location.
According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan forces effectively engaged the terrorists, resulting in their deaths during an intense exchange of fire. A sanitization operation is ongoing to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
The military emphasized that the Counter Terrorism campaign under the vision โAzm-e-Istehkam,โ approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, will continue at full pace. The operation aims to remove foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from Pakistan.
The Bannu operation coincided with a separate incident in Peshawar, where a group of suicide bombers attacked the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters on Monday morning. The assault occurred around 8 a.m. during the weekly assembly, claiming the lives of three FC personnel and injuring two others.
A swift clearance operation was conducted by Pakistan forces, preventing the attackers from breaching the compound. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmad praised the vigilance of the personnel, stating, โThe vigilance of our personnel prevented a larger disaster.โ
The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistanโs (TTP) Jamatul Ahrar faction claimed responsibility for the Peshawar attack. The FC headquarters is located in a densely populated area near a military cantonment, which also houses barracks, hospitals, and residential quarters.
Following the incident, an emergency was declared at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH). Eleven injured individuals were admitted to LRH, while one patient was taken to KTH. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service on the main corridor was temporarily suspended, although feeder routes remained operational.
Pakistan forces continue to strengthen security measures nationwide to counter terrorist threats and ensure public safety. The operations highlight the ongoing commitment of Pakistan forces to eliminate terrorism and safeguard civilians across the country.
