Pakistan and Indonesia Sign New Deals to Strengthen Their Partnership

Pakistan and Indonesia have signed several important agreements aimed at boosting cooperation in key sectors. The signing ceremony took place in Islamabad and was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The new deals mark a major step in improving the long-standing Partnership between the two nations.

The agreements cover a wide range of areas, including trade, culture, health, education, and vocational training. Both leaders expressed confidence that this expanded Partnership will open new doors for economic and social progress.

Speaking at a joint press briefing, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and Indonesia will work together to reach their shared goals. He highlighted that the current trade volume stands at $4.5 billion. Both sides discussed ways to balance trade by increasing Pakistan’s exports, especially agricultural goods and IT services.

PM Shehbaz also announced that Pakistan will send doctors, dentists, and other medical experts to Indonesia. He said this support will help Indonesia strengthen its healthcare sector, which is an important part of the broader Partnership between the two countries.

The prime minister noted that Pakistan and Indonesia have enjoyed friendly relations for more than 75 years. President Subianto’s visit also coincides with the anniversary of diplomatic ties, making the occasion more meaningful for both nations. PM Shehbaz recalled Indonesia’s strong support to Pakistan during the 1965 war and said it remains deeply appreciated.

Upon arriving at the PM House, President Subianto received a warm welcome, including a guard of honour. He also planted a commemorative sapling as a symbol of friendship. The two leaders held a one-on-one meeting followed by delegation-level talks to discuss future cooperation.

This is President Subianto’s first visit to Pakistan since taking office. The last presidential visit from Indonesia was made in 2018 by then-president Joko Widodo. Officials believe the new agreements will give fresh momentum to Pakistan-Indonesia relations and help both countries work toward regional peace and development.
