Pakistan Invited to Iran-US Talks in Turkiye to Help Ease Nuclear Tensions

Pakistan has been invited to take part in high-level Iran-US talks scheduled to be held in Türkiye. The discussions aim to ease tensions and address ongoing concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear programme.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi confirmed that Pakistan received an official invitation to participate in the Iran-US negotiations in Istanbul. Islamabad is expected to play a supportive role in fostering dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

According to international news agency Reuters, the nuclear negotiations will begin on Friday in Istanbul. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will lead their respective delegations. The talks aim to resolve disputes diplomatically and prevent a potential conflict in the region.

Officials stated that the primary goal of the Istanbul meetings is to reduce confrontation and promote stability. Regional powers, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates, have also been invited to observe and contribute to the discussions.

The invitation reflects Pakistan’s increasing role in regional diplomacy. Analysts suggest Islamabad’s participation could help facilitate communication and trust between the two countries. Pakistan has previously supported peaceful negotiations and emphasized dialogue over escalation.

Tensions between Iran and the US have remained high in recent months. Last month, US naval vessels were deployed near Iranian waters amid domestic unrest and anti-government protests in Iran. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had warned of potential military action if diplomacy failed.
