Pakistan invited to join the US-Iran nuclear talks, aimed at reducing regional tensions, will be represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that the negotiations, scheduled in Istanbul, were organized to prevent further escalation in the region. He added that persistent “back-door” diplomacy helped bring Washington and Tehran to the discussion table.
Besides Pakistan invited, Saudi Arabia and Qatar will also participate in the Istanbul talks. Egypt, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates have also been invited to provide regional support and ensure constructive dialogue. Both Pakistan and Turkey have played active roles in behind-the-scenes diplomacy to make the negotiations possible.
The talks between the US and Iran were suspended after the fifth round. Although the exact format of the meetings remains unclear, officials confirmed that the main session will take place on Friday. The focus will remain on avoiding conflict and fostering fair dialogue.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed on Tuesday that he instructed his Foreign Minister to start nuclear talks with the United States. He emphasized that discussions should occur “within the framework of our national interests” and in an environment free from threats.
US President Donald Trump warned of “bad things” if no deal is reached but expressed hope for a constructive outcome. Tehran has insisted that negotiations focus solely on the nuclear program, rejecting discussions over missiles or defense capabilities.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told CNN that a nuclear deal is achievable if the US team follows the guidelines outlined by President Trump. Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cautioned that a US attack could trigger a regional war.
Pakistan invited to participate in these talks underscores its growing role as a mediator in regional diplomacy. Officials said that constructive engagement by all invited countries is crucial for maintaining stability and preventing further escalation in the Middle East.
