Pakistan Kabaddi Player Faces Backlash for Playing for Indian Team, Waving Flag

Pakistan Kabaddi Player Faces Backlash for Playing for Indian Team, Waving Flag

The Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) has called an emergency meeting after reports surfaced that Pakistani kabaddi player Ubaidullah played for an Indian team, wore its jersey, and waved the Indian flag during a tournament.

PKF Secretary Rana Sarwar confirmed that PKF Chairman Chaudhry Shafay Hussain has scheduled a meeting on December 27 to review the matter. He clarified that 16 Pakistani players participated in a tournament in Bahrain. However, the team was not a national side and had no approval from the federation.

According to Sarwar, no permission was sought from the government or PKF, and no no-objection certificates (NOCs) were issued. The team was self-created and used Pakistanโ€™s name without authorization.

โ€œThe act of a national-level player representing an Indian team and waving its flag is completely unacceptable,โ€ Sarwar said. He added that the federation will conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against those involved.

The PKF Secretary also emphasized that action will be taken against unauthorized promoters who organize illegal events. โ€œNo one will be allowed to tarnish Pakistanโ€™s image or organize unapproved tournaments,โ€ he said.

While acknowledging that players from different countries may play together at the club level, Sarwar stressed that representing a foreign team and waving its national flag is deeply regrettable.

The Pakistan Kabaddi Federation reiterated its commitment to protecting the countryโ€™s name in international sports. It also vowed to enforce strict discipline within the sport and ensure that incidents like this do not recur.

This controversy has drawn attention to governance and discipline issues in Pakistan kabaddi, highlighting the need for stricter monitoring of players and tournaments abroad. The PKFโ€™s upcoming emergency meeting is expected to address these concerns and set guidelines for future international participation.

Fans of Pakistan kabaddi are closely watching the developments, hoping the federation will uphold the integrity of the sport and prevent similar incidents. The outcome may impact the selection and participation of national players in overseas competitions.
