Pakistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to enhance cooperation on a rail connectivity Project linking the two countries. The proposed railway corridor aims to strengthen trade and transport ties in the region.
A high-level meeting was held at Pakistanโs Ministry of Railways, attended by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and the Ambassador of Kazakhstan. The discussion focused on regional railway cooperation and economic benefits.
Under the plan, the railway will connect Karachi Port to Kazakhstan via Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. The route will also extend through Chaman, near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Officials have said that preparatory work on the proposed route has already been completed.
The Railways Minister highlighted that the rail connectivity Project is part of the Prime Ministerโs Regional Connectivity Vision. He described it as highly strategic and a potential milestone for regional trade and economic development.
The project is estimated to cost around $7 billion. Authorities expect construction to be completed within three years, creating new opportunities for businesses and improving regional logistics.
The Minister emphasized that the project is crucial not only for the railway sector but also for enhancing trade relations across Central Asia. He added that the railway corridor could become a game-changer for Pakistanโs economic growth and regional integration.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the PakistanโKazakhstan Rail Connectivity Project is expected to be signed during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Pakistan on 3 February 2026. Both sides have expressed optimism about the long-term benefits of this partnership.
Experts believe the project will strengthen ties between Pakistan and Central Asian countries, opening new avenues for trade, transport, and economic cooperation.
