Rawalpindi: Pakistan achieved significant milestones in its fight against terrorism during 2025, according to DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.
Addressing a press conference, the DG ISPR said terrorism remains the biggest threat to Pakistan. He highlighted that counter-terrorism operations in 2025 were conducted with unprecedented intensity.
“Anti-Terror Operations during the year helped the state and citizens understand the true nature of terrorism,” he said. The DG stressed that terrorists have no connection with Islam.
Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry added that Pakistan’s position on Afghanistan as a base for terrorism gained international recognition. He also noted strong national consensus on the National Action Plan under “Azm-e-Istehkam” to eliminate terrorism.
Details of Anti-Terror Operations in 2025
The DG ISPR reported that law enforcement agencies carried out 75,175 intelligence-based operations, killing 2,597 terrorists. In these attacks, 1,235 security personnel lost their lives.
Of these operations, 14,658 were in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 58,778 in Balochistan, and 1,739 in other regions. Overall, 5,397 terrorist incidents were reported, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accounting for 71%.
He explained the high number in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is due to a politically conducive environment and a political–criminal–terrorist nexus, with Afghan Taliban support.
Terrorist Tactics and India-Afghan Nexus
The DG ISPR highlighted the use of quadcopters by terrorist groups and said drones are strictly for surveillance. He also pointed to an India–Afghan Taliban nexus providing financial and logistical support to terrorists.
Pakistan’s military and political leadership remain unified in combating terrorism. Lt Gen Chaudhry said, “This is not the army’s war alone; it is a war of every Pakistani.”
Impact of Anti-Terror Operations
Anti-Terror Operations in 2025 successfully neutralized terrorists and reduced major incidents. Ten major attacks occurred, all involving Afghan nationals.
The DG ISPR emphasized that terrorism cannot be negotiated with and warned that unchecked terrorism spreads violence quickly.
He concluded, “For us, there is no shade or category of terrorism. There is only one kind of terrorist — a dead terrorist.”
