The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, announced the launch of a new shipping service connecting Karachi Port to the United Arab Emirates on Friday.
The initiative aims to enhance Pakistan’s transshipment capabilities and strengthen maritime trade links. The service will operate between Karachi and the UAE ports of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan.
Speaking on the launch, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the shipping service will support Karachi Gateway Terminal (Private) Limited (KGTL), a major business partner of Karachi Port Trust. The service ensures regular connections to key transshipment hubs, giving Pakistani importers and exporters reliable access to international shipping networks.
“The first vessel of the shipping service arrived at KGTL on March 11, officially marking the start of regular operations,” the minister added. He highlighted that cargo routed through Fujairah and Khor Fakkan will benefit from integrated logistics, including road and rail corridors connecting UAE commercial hubs.
Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed (Retd.), Chairman of Karachi Port Trust, said the new shipping service strengthens Pakistan’s maritime connectivity. He added that it will facilitate smoother cargo movement, provide greater flexibility to traders, and support growing trade requirements.
Khurram Aziz Khan, CEO of KGTL, stated that the service reinforces Karachi Gateway Terminal’s role as a key gateway for international trade. He noted that the initiative ensures importers and exporters have reliable access to global markets while supporting Pakistan’s trading community.
Federal Minister Junaid Chaudhry concluded that the economy depends heavily on maritime trade. Strengthened links with regional transshipment hubs, he said, will enhance supply chain resilience and support Pakistan’s position in international commerce.
The new shipping service marks a major step toward modernizing Karachi Port’s operations and improving Pakistan’s maritime trade infrastructure, benefiting both exporters and importers.
