Pakistan Navy Test-Fires Surface-to-Air Missile in North Arabian Sea

Pakistan Navy has successfully test-fired a surface-to-air missile during a naval exercise in the North Arabian Sea, showcasing advanced air defence and modern naval capabilities, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

The exercise, held in the North Arabian Sea and observed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet, included the live firing of the LY-80(N) missile from a vertical launching system. The test validated the long-range capabilities of the Pakistan Navy’s modern air defence systems.

“The LY-80(N) SAM successfully engaged and neutralized an aerial target, demonstrating the Pakistan Navy’s robust air defence capabilities,” the ISPR added. The exercise highlighted the Navy’s readiness to counter aerial threats and protect national maritime interests.

In addition to the missile test, the Pakistan Navy also showcased its precision strike capabilities using Loitering Munition (LM). The LM successfully engaged and destroyed surface targets, demonstrating its effectiveness in modern naval warfare.

Open-sea trials of an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) were also conducted. The trials confirmed the USV’s high-speed performance, extreme manoeuvrability, precision navigation, and resilience under challenging weather conditions. The ISPR stated that the USV combines stealth with tactical efficiency, offering a low-risk, high-impact solution for naval operations.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, praised officers and sailors for their professionalism and operational competence. He reaffirmed that the Pakistan Navy remains committed to defending Pakistan’s maritime borders and safeguarding national interests at all times.
