Pakistan Restarts Exporting Fresh, Chilled Meat to the UAE

A Pakistani meat processing and exporting company has resumed its shipment of chilled fresh meat to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) via sea. This decision followed enhancements made to their packaging to comply with the requirements stipulated by UAE authorities.

In the previous month, the UAE declared a temporary halt to the importation of chilled fresh beef from Pakistan via sea, effective from October 10. This action was prompted by concerns over the quality of products supplied to their markets by an undisclosed source. Annually, Pakistan contributes approximately $144 million worth of meat exports to the UAE.

Faisal Hussain, the CEO of the Organic Meat Company Limited (TOMCL), affirmed that their exports have continued, and they anticipate returning to their previous export levels within the next 8-10 days, given the current pace.

Hussain explained that initial samples of meat were dispatched and received approval from the UAE government before regular shipments resumed in the country last week. Consequently, he stated, “There are no issues with the GCC, and exports to the UAE will proceed.”

Pakistan stands as one of the world’s leading meat producers. According to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the nation has witnessed rapid growth in meat exports over the past decade, leveraging its competitive advantage to supply meat to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations.
