Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged to take Pakistan-Saudi Arabia defence cooperation to new heights. The announcement came during a high-level meeting at PM House with Saudi Arabiaโs Chief of General Staff, General Fayyadh Bin Hameed Al Rowaili.
General Al Rowaili visited Islamabad carrying a message of goodwill from the Saudi leadership. During the meeting, both sides agreed to expand joint military training, large-scale exercises, and expert-level exchanges. PM Sharif praised the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA), calling it a landmark in bilateral ties.
The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan and Saudi Arabiaโs shared commitment against terrorism and extremism. He noted that both countries are aligned in their mission to maintain regional peace and stability.
General Al Rowaili reaffirmed Riyadhโs determination to elevate the defence and strategic partnership to new heights. He appreciated Pakistanโs extensive support to the Saudi Armed Forces and pledged to strengthen collaboration further.
The meetings involved top officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and senior civil and military representatives from both countries.
The Saudi military chief also met Field Marshal Asim Munir at the GHQ in Rawalpindi. Both leaders discussed mutual interests, security cooperation, and counter-terrorism operations. They reiterated their commitment to enhancing defence ties and taking the strategic partnership to new heights.
Officials described the discussions as a critical step in advancing military collaboration, focusing on shared expertise, operational readiness, and regional security initiatives. The visit underscores Islamabad and Riyadhโs determination to deepen defence relations and strengthen strategic bonds.
