Pakistan Senate Rejects Indian Allegations Over Pahalgam Attack, Calls for Peaceful Resolution

The Senate of Pakistan has unanimously passed a resolution denouncing India’s allegations that link Pakistan to the recent deadly attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Terming the claims baseless and politically driven, the resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and rejected any involvement in the incident.

The resolution condemned all acts of terrorism and strongly criticized India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a provocative move that could be interpreted as an act of war. Lawmakers emphasized that water remains a vital resource for Pakistan’s 240 million citizens and must not be weaponized.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar informed the Senate about the recent National Security Committee (NSC) decisions, which include the expulsion of Indian diplomats, cancellation of SAARC visas, and the closure of the Wagah border crossing. He also noted that India had not directly named Pakistan or provided any evidence linking it to the Pahalgam incident.

Senators from across the political spectrum voiced concern over India’s actions. Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz called for global scrutiny of New Delhi’s behavior, while ANP leader Aimal Wali stressed the need for open dialogue and accused India of hampering regional cooperation through its rigid stance.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has urged both India and Pakistan to exercise “maximum restraint.” UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reaffirmed the organization’s condemnation of the Pahalgam attack and called for peaceful resolution to prevent further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
