Pakistan Aims to Create 800,000 Jobs for Citizens in Gulf by 2026

Pakistan has set a goal to secure 800,000 jobs for its citizens in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries by 2026. This effort is part of a broader plan to boost skills development and strengthen the national economy.

According to Khaleej Times, the Pakistani government is implementing reforms to address challenges faced by overseas workers. These measures aim to enhance skills, improve labor rights, and expand employment opportunities abroad. Experts say these initiatives are significant for Pakistan’s economic growth.

The plan targets the UAE and other GCC countries, aiming for an increase of 60,000 positions compared to last year. Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, confirmed that Pakistan exported a workforce of 740,000 in 2025 and plans to reach 800,000 jobs in 2026.

Currently, more than 9 million Pakistanis live in GCC countries. They play a vital role in supporting Pakistan’s economy through remittances, which totaled approximately $40 billion last year. Officials say expanding overseas jobs opportunities is key to promoting skills and sustaining economic growth.

The report also highlighted international opportunities outside the Gulf. In December 2025, Italy offered 10,500 jobs to Pakistani workers, mainly in agriculture and healthcare sectors. Authorities believe such initiatives will help diversify employment options for skilled workers.

Officials emphasized that creating overseas jobs is not just about economic gains. It also strengthens Pakistan’s human capital, enhances technical skills, and provides global exposure to the workforce.

With the government targeting 800,000 jobs in 2026, Pakistan is working closely with GCC partners to streamline visa procedures, ensure worker safety, and improve employment conditions. These steps are expected to benefit both the workers and the broader economy.
