During an international forum in Ashgabat, marking the โInternational Year of Peace and Trust 2025โ and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistanโs permanent neutrality, Pakistanโs Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed global leaders. He emphasized that Pakistan urges world powers to act against terrorism and support sustainable peace initiatives.
The prime minister warned that โthe scourge of terrorism is raising its head again, and this time, unfortunately, from Afghan soil.โ He called on the international community to pressure the Taliban regime to fulfill its international obligations and curb terrorist activities. He stated that Pakistan urges world to collectively ensure security and stability in the region.
Shehbaz Sharif also expressed gratitude to Qatar, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Iran for their efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Highlighting the fragile situation, he praised the unanimous adoption of UNSC Resolution 2788 as a strong endorsement of Pakistanโs vision for peaceful dispute resolution.
He reiterated Pakistanโs firm support for Palestinian rights and the โbrave and resilient Kashmiri people,โ emphasizing their right to self-determination. The prime minister also noted that sustainable peace is closely linked to sustainable development, pointing to Pakistanโs progress in financial inclusion, gender empowerment, and green initiatives.
Recalling the devastating floods of 2022 and ongoing climate-related challenges, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that climate change, poverty, and inequality are interconnected global threats. He emphasized that Pakistan urges world leaders to provide equitable access to advanced and digital technologies and adopt cooperative approaches rather than zero-sum mindsets.
He encouraged global investment in connectivity as a bridge for trade, ideas, and prosperity. Earlier, the prime minister congratulated Turkmenistan on its 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality and welcomed the UN designation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust.
