Pakistani Embassy in UAE Urges Nationals to Follow New Media Laws

The Embassy of Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued an important advisory urging all Pakistani citizens residing in the country to strictly follow the UAE’s newly enforced media regulations. The warning comes after the UAE Cabinet’s updated media law came into effect on May 29, 2025.

The new framework outlines 20 categories of media-related violations, carrying heavy penalties for offenses committed by individuals, media outlets, and digital users. Violations include insulting religious sentiments, disrespecting the country’s leadership or symbols, and spreading misinformation.

Under the new law, fines range from AED 5,000 to AED 1,000,000 depending on the nature of the offense. For example, insulting religious beliefs could lead to fines as high as AED 1 million, while promoting sectarianism or terrorism may cost offenders up to AED 500,000.

The embassy has urged Pakistanis to be especially cautious on social media, advising them to avoid posting, liking, or sharing any content that could violate local laws or cultural values.

Officials stressed the importance of respecting the UAE’s legal framework and reminded community members to stay informed and responsible in their online behavior.
