Pakistan Set for Game-Changing 5G Spectrum Auction on March 10

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the auction for 5G Spectrum will be held on March 10. This move marks a major step toward improving internet connectivity across Pakistan.

PTA Chairman Hafeezur Rehman emphasized that the public demands faster and more reliable internet services. He noted that without enhanced connectivity, Pakistan’s vision of a digital economy cannot be fully realized. The chairman added that the upcoming 5G Spectrum auction will address long-standing internet challenges in the country.

Amer Shahzad, PTA’s Director-General (Wireless Licensing), stated that over 101 countries have already deployed 5G services. He confirmed that Pakistan will provide 597 megahertz of spectrum for commercial use. This allocation is expected to improve internet speed and network reliability.

According to Shahzad, the demand for spectrum has increased significantly after the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted that 97% of Pakistan’s mobile towers currently support 4G. Despite this, connectivity issues remain, particularly in rural areas, where load-shedding often disrupts services. The introduction of new 5G Spectrum is expected to enhance coverage and provide a more stable connection.

The 5G Spectrum rollout will also support advanced technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, and digital healthcare. Experts believe that improved internet speeds will boost economic activities and attract technology-driven investments.

Telecom companies in Pakistan are preparing to participate in the auction. Analysts suggest that competition for 5G Spectrum will be intense, as mobile operators seek to expand their services and offer high-speed internet to urban and rural areas alike.
