A peace agreement was signed at a grand jirga (tribal assembly) in Kohat, marking a significant step towards restoring stability in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district. The agreement was reached after both factions agreed to surrender heavy weapons to the government. The final decision and official announcement are expected later today from the Commissioner of Kohat.
This peace accord follows earlier delays due to incomplete participation from jirga members but was finally finalized with both parties agreeing on crucial points. The administration emphasized that the removal of heavy weapons was essential before roads could be safely opened, with helicopter services continuing to deliver medicines and supplies to Kurram.

The situation in Kurram district, however, remains tense as protests against the road blockages spread across Pakistan. The sit-in in Parachinar has entered its sixth day, with protests spreading to other parts of the country. The closure of roads has caused significant hardship, with essential medical supplies, including oxygen, insulin, and cancer treatments, in short supply.
Philanthropist Faisal Edhi has called on the government to act swiftly to resolve the crisis, warning that the situation is dire. He revealed that more than a hundred children have died due to the ongoing conflict, and many medical procedures have been suspended. In Karachi, protests led by the religious party Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen caused severe traffic disruptions, highlighting the widespread frustration with the ongoing crisis.
