The government has reduced fuel prices again. This change took effect from Friday, September 25. Both petrol and diesel prices dropped this time.
Petrol price fell by Rs. 0.84 per litre. High-speed diesel dropped by Rs. 2.63 per litre. The decision was made on Thursday.
New Fuel Prices
Petrol now costs Rs. 389.28 per litre. Diesel will sell at Rs. 412.12 per litre. These rates apply from Friday onward.
The government still collects heavy taxes on fuel. It charges Rs. 114 per litre on petrol. Diesel carries a tax of Rs. 100 per litre.
Prices Had Surged Earlier This Year
Fuel prices rose sharply earlier in 2026. Diesel touched Rs. 520.35 per litre on April 3. This spike followed the US-Iran conflict in February.
Petrol also increased dramatically during that period. It reached Rs. 458.41 per litre by April 3. Prices had climbed steadily since early March.
Government Introduces Conservation Measures
Authorities have brought back fuel-saving rules. Markets must now close by 9pm nationwide. This step aims to conserve fuel resources.
Official vehicles also face fuel cuts. Their fuel allocation dropped by 50 percent. This measure will last for three months.
Relief Scheme for Small Vehicle Owners
PM Shehbaz Sharif announced a relief package earlier. This came on September 13 this year. It targets motorcyclists, rickshaw drivers and small car owners.
The scheme covers vehicles up to 800cc engines. It aims to ease pressure from rising oil costs. Many low-income families rely on such vehicles daily.
Daily Price Adjustment System Introduced
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced a new pricing system. This happened on July 17 this year. Prices now adjust daily based on global trends.
This shift responds to instability in international oil markets. Tensions between Iran and the US continue affecting prices. Ogra now handles these daily pricing decisions.
Why Fuel Prices Matter
Petrol powers cars, motorcycles and rickshaws widely. Any petrol price change affects household transport costs directly. Millions of commuters feel this impact immediately.
Diesel fuels heavy transport and power plants. Changes in diesel prices affect broader economic activity. Both fuels remain central to Pakistan’s energy needs.
