ISLAMABAD: Relief may be on the way for consumers across Pakistan. Reports suggest a significant reduction in fuel rates is under consideration. The expected cut could be announced within the next few days.
According to official sources, Petroleum prices may be reduced from December 16. The proposed decrease could be as high as Rs11 per litre. Relevant authorities have completed initial calculations for the expected adjustment.
The working shows different reductions for various petroleum products. Petrol is expected to become cheaper by 36 paisas per litre. High-speed diesel may see a much larger cut. Sources indicate a possible reduction of Rs11.85 per litre for diesel.
Kerosene oil prices are also expected to go down. The proposed cut for kerosene oil is Rs11.70 per litre. Light diesel oil may become cheaper by Rs10.01 per litre. These changes could provide relief to households and businesses alike.
Officials say the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority will play a key role. OGRA is expected to send a summary to the federal government on December 15. This summary will outline the proposed changes in Petroleum prices.
After receiving the summary, the prime minister will review it. Final approval is required before any changes take effect. Once approved, the Petroleum Division will issue a formal notification. The notification will confirm the new fuel rates.
If the proposal is accepted, petrol will be priced at Rs263.09 per litre. High-speed diesel will then cost Rs267.80 per litre. These new rates would reflect the expected decrease.
The revised price of kerosene oil would be Rs181.16 per litre. Light diesel oil would be sold at Rs153.76 per litre. These reductions could ease pressure on transport and energy costs.
Experts note that fuel prices impact daily life. Transport fares and food costs often depend on fuel rates. Any reduction in Petroleum prices can influence inflation trends.
However, officials stress that these figures are not final yet. Global oil prices and exchange rates still matter. Final prices will depend on official approval.
