Punjab Food Authority Clarifies Misconceptions About Real Or Plastic Eggs

Growing rumors about real or plastic eggs circulating in Pakistani markets have caused widespread concern among consumers. Many people claim that some eggs are fake, pointing to slight differences in yolk and white colors and textures.

Addressing the issue, Mohsin Bhatti, a representative of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), appeared on ARY Digitalโ€™s morning show, Good Morning Pakistan. He explained that the fears surrounding real or plastic eggs are based on misconceptions.

Bhatti noted that some people believe eggs bounce like rubber balls when boiled, assuming they are made of plastic. He clarified that this effect is caused by prolonged cold storage, not synthetic materials.

โ€œDuring the summer, egg demand drops, but poultry farms continue production year-round,โ€ Bhatti explained. โ€œTo handle the surplus, eggs are stored in cold facilities for several months.โ€

The extended storage can change the texture of both the yolk and the white, giving them an elastic consistency. This, Bhatti said, is why some consumers mistakenly think they are handling plastic eggs.

He further emphasized that plastic eggs cannot be boiled, fried, or used to make an omelette, unlike real eggs. Bhatti compared the situation to fruits and vegetables, which naturally change in texture and taste over time.

The Punjab Food Authority reassured the public that all eggs sold in markets are genuine and safe for consumption. Officials urged consumers not to believe rumors and to rely on verified sources for food safety information.

Bhatti concluded that the real or plastic eggs confusion is entirely unfounded. He encouraged people to continue using eggs without fear and stressed the importance of proper storage to maintain freshness.

With increasing misinformation, PFA officials are monitoring the situation closely and ensuring that food safety standards are upheld. Consumers are advised to buy eggs from reputable sources and follow standard storage practices to enjoy fresh and safe products.
