Pakistan Airports Authority has imposed fines exceeding Rs. 10 million on Pakistan International Airlines over delayed baggage delivery.
According to official documents cited by Express News, the penalties relate to delays after flights arrived at airports.
The authority issued separate penalty orders against PIA after passengers waited longer than expected for their luggage.
The Pakistan Airports Authority directed the airline to pay the fines by September 25. However, the payment was not made by the deadline.
At Islamabad Airport, PIA faces a penalty of more than Rs. 7 million. The airline was also fined Rs. 1.485 million at Lahore Airport.
The penalties come as the national carrier continues to face complaints over passenger services and ground handling operations.
Authorities have also issued several warnings to the airline regarding service standards. Operational delays have reportedly remained a concern at different airports.
The latest penalties specifically focus on baggage handling after aircraft arrival. Passengers had to wait for their luggage beyond the expected delivery time.
PIA officials have responded by linking the delays to airport infrastructure and operational limitations.
PIA General Manager Traffic Tariq Majeed said baggage delays were affected by limited conveyor belts and scanners.
He said the issue was particularly noticeable at Islamabad Airport. According to him, multiple flights arriving at the same time increase pressure on the system.
He added that these conditions can slow baggage handling and create longer waiting times for passengers.
PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan also commented on the penalties. He said limits in the Pakistan Airports Authority’s operational capacity affect baggage delivery.
According to the spokesperson, these fines are part of routine regulatory procedures. He added that other airlines also receive penalties in similar situations.
The Pakistan Airports Authority has not withdrawn the penalties mentioned in the report.
The issue highlights continuing challenges in baggage handling and ground operations at major airports.
Timely baggage delivery remains an important part of airline passenger services. Delays can affect travelers even after their flights have landed.
For PIA, the latest fines add to ongoing pressure to improve passenger handling and airport coordination.
The airline has maintained that infrastructure constraints also contribute to the problem.
