ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended two flight attendants after a public altercation at Jeddah International Airport. The incident involved PIA Crew Members and occurred in the departure lounge as a flight was preparing to depart for Multan.
According to airline sources, the incident took place on December 23. The argument between the two crew members escalated into a physical scuffle. Several bystanders recorded the incident on their mobile phones. The video was later shared on social media, where it quickly went viral and sparked public criticism.
Following the spread of the footage, the airline administration took immediate notice. A PIA spokesperson confirmed that both PIA Crew Members involved were suspended from duty. The suspension will remain in effect until the investigation is completed. The spokesperson said the airline does not tolerate unprofessional behavior, especially in public areas.
PIA officials stated that an internal inquiry has been launched. Statements from witnesses and airport authorities are being reviewed. The airline is also examining the video footage to determine responsibility and possible violations of conduct rules. Officials stressed that discipline and professionalism are essential for cabin crew.
The incident has raised concerns about the conduct of airline staff abroad. Aviation experts noted that such behavior can damage the airline’s image. They added that cabin crew represent the airline and the country while traveling internationally.
This is not the first time PIA Crew Members have faced disciplinary action. In a separate incident last year, two male airhosts were investigated after failing to return from Canada. The crew members had traveled from Islamabad to Toronto on Flight 772. Upon arrival, they did not report back for their assigned return duty.
As a result of that absence, the flight had to depart without them. PIA officials later contacted Canadian authorities regarding the matter. The airline had promised strict action once the investigation was completed. That case also highlighted concerns about compliance with airline rules.
Regarding the current Jeddah incident, PIA management said all facts will be verified before final decisions are made. Officials assured that appropriate disciplinary measures will follow based on the inquiry findings. They added that fairness and transparency will guide the process.
The airline also reminded staff to follow the code of conduct at all times. PIA emphasized that public disputes harm passenger confidence and the airline’s reputation. Management said steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
