Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a new three-year electricity relief plan called the Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package. The initiative aims to support Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural sectors by providing affordable power and boosting economic growth.
The package, revealed during a meeting with experts and business leaders, will run from November 2025 to October 2028. Under the plan, industries and farmers will receive extra electricity at a concessional rate of Rs. 22.98 per unit. This represents a major cut from current rates of Rs. 34 per unit for industry and Rs. 38 per unit for agriculture.
Prime Minister Shehbaz assured that the cost of this subsidized electricity would not be passed on to domestic consumers or other sectors. He praised Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari and his team for developing a plan that supports economic revival while maintaining financial discipline.
The Prime Minister said the Roshan Maeeshat Electricity Package builds on the success of last year’s winter relief initiative, which helped industries and farms use an additional 410 gigawatts of electricity. That earlier program kept factories running, supported exports, and created new jobs across the country.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan’s economy has moved from crisis to stability through tough decisions and teamwork. “Our economic indicators are improving through effective policies,” he said. “But we must continue to work hard to achieve self-reliance and reduce dependence on external loans.”
He emphasized that steady growth in agriculture and industry will strengthen the national economy and promote sustainable development. The Prime Minister also expressed optimism that continued cooperation between the government, private sector, and workers will lead to lasting prosperity.
Further details about the package’s implementation and monitoring will be shared by the Ministry of Energy in the coming weeks.
