Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is working with European partners to curb illegal Migration. He made these remarks while addressing the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum in Vienna on Monday.
The prime minister arrived in Austria for a two-day official visit. During his speech, he stressed the need for cooperation on Migration issues. He said Pakistan is working closely with countries like Austria, Germany, and France to stop illegal immigration.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that many Pakistanis risk their lives each year while seeking better opportunities abroad. He said several people fall victim to human smugglers and criminal networks during these journeys. He added that stronger cooperation on Migration can help prevent such tragedies.
The prime minister also spoke about economic cooperation with Austria. He highlighted Pakistan’s potential in renewable energy, agriculture, mining, and human resource development. He said both countries can benefit from stronger business ties.
Shehbaz Sharif described Pakistan as an agrarian economy, with over 60 percent of the population living in rural areas. He invited Austrian experts to help improve value-added agricultural exports, especially citrus products.
He also encouraged Austrian investors to explore opportunities in mining, tourism, and engineering sectors. The prime minister said Austria has advanced expertise in renewable energy, environmental technology, and modern manufacturing.
Shehbaz Sharif invited Austrian companies to participate in Pakistan’s renewable energy projects and grid modernization plans. He also asked Austrian business leaders to visit Pakistan and see investment opportunities firsthand.
The prime minister said Pakistan and Austria share strong historical ties. Austrian firms have worked in Pakistan for decades, especially in cable car projects, minerals, and renewable energy technology.
He noted that recent talks with the Austrian Federal Chancellor were productive. Both sides agreed to continue discussions and strengthen cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif said around 60 percent of Pakistan’s population is young and ready to join global industries. He added that the government is providing laptops, AI training, and technical education to prepare youth for international markets.

He also announced plans to host the EU-Pakistan Business Forum in Islamabad at the end of April. Austrian companies are expected to attend and expand economic cooperation.
