ISLAMABAD – PM Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level review meeting on Pakistan’s exports, emphasizing that boosting trade is vital for the country’s economic growth and stability. He highlighted that export-led development is a top priority for his government.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz assured the industrial and trading community that all possible facilities would be provided to support businesses and expand the export base. He stressed that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) must be promoted, noting that strengthening SMEs will create employment opportunities and enhance Pakistan’s global trade competitiveness.
To better understand challenges faced by exporters, PM Shehbaz directed federal ministers to personally visit major industrial and commercial cities. They were instructed to meet exporters directly, listen to their concerns, and ensure faster resolution of business-related issues.
The prime minister also emphasized the importance of coordination between the federal government and provinces. He highlighted sectors such as cold chain infrastructure and other industrial areas as key priorities to strengthen supply chains and improve export competitiveness.
Officials briefed PM Shehbaz on Pakistan’s trade performance in the current fiscal year 2025–26. The meeting included updates on exports and imports, as well as discussions on trade trends, challenges, and strategies to meet national export targets.
Experts say the prime minister’s focus on SMEs and direct engagement with exporters reflects a hands-on approach to economic management. By promoting industry and trade, the government aims to increase Pakistan’s global market share, boost economic growth, and generate new employment opportunities across the country.
