PM Shehbaz urges awareness boost for Ramadan relief package

Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed ministries to collaborate with the private sector to enhance awareness of the Rs 20 billion Ramadan Relief Package. The initiative, aimed at supporting deserving families, has seen a low withdrawal rate, with only 20% of the allocated funds utilized so far.

During a review meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister highlighted the need for an improved outreach strategy. He urged eligible individuals to call 9999 for information about the digital wallet system, ensuring that more people benefit from the cash transfer program.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the relief package is a right, not a favor, and is designed to provide direct cash transfers of Rs 5,000 to deserving families transparently. This approach allows recipients to purchase essentials based on their needs instead of relying on fixed distribution methods.

The government is also considering expanding the relief package’s scope. The Prime Minister has requested recommendations from relevant stakeholders within a week to ensure the program reaches more families efficiently.
