The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert as the latest system forecasts rains and strong winds across Pakistan from today until March 30.
The warnings cover Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. Authorities have urged caution due to the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas.
In Noshki, heavy rainfall caused local streams and nullahs to overflow. Karachi is expected to experience rain between March 27 and 29, with some areas possibly seeing hail.
Balochistan will face heavy rain, hailstorms, and lightning from tonight through March 25. Central and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, and Kashmir are also forecasted to receive rains on the evening of March 25 and daytime of March 26.
Officials have warned that hail and windstorms could damage standing crops in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh. Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in parts of central and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Islamabad is expected to see partly cloudy skies with chances of rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hail in the evening and nighttime hours.
Several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Swat, and Dir, are forecasted to receive rains accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated heavy showers.
Punjab will experience partly cloudy weather with rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hail in Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Sialkot. Sindh will see rain and thunderstorms in Sukkur, Khairpur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad.
Balochistan is expected to witness rain and thunderstorms in Quetta, Khuzdar, Chaman, Zhob, and Gwadar, including isolated heavy rainfall and hail. Kashmir will have partly cloudy skies with rain, thunderstorms, and hail, while Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to remain dry.
In response, the Chief Secretary of Sindh has placed administrative authorities on high alert. Officials in Karachi have been instructed to monitor conditions in the field over the next seven days.
