LAHORE โ The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has dismissed rumors circulating online about severe cold weather and record-breaking snowfall in the country.
A senior PMD official stated that these claims are misleading and not supported by actual weather data. He urged citizens to rely on official sources for accurate forecasts.
The official confirmed that the coming days will witness normal winter conditions, with temperatures consistent with seasonal averages. There is no indication of an unusually severe cold weather spell.
The PMD spokesperson said, โThe current cold weather is typical for this time of year. There is no extreme drop in temperatures expected.โ He also appealed to the public to avoid sharing unverified social media posts, which could create unnecessary fear.
Recently, a viral social media post claimed that between January 16 and 25, Pakistan would face the coldest temperatures in a century, including heavy snowfall in cities such as Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The post also predicted temperatures dropping to -5ยฐC, a level not seen since 1964.
Similar claims targeted Lahore, Murree, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, suggesting extreme snowfall and record low temperatures. The PMD, however, labeled all such predictions as false and fabricated.
Officials emphasized that while winter conditions will continue, they are within normal limits. Citizens are advised to follow weather updates only from the PMD and avoid panic based on social media speculation.
The department also reassured that schools, businesses, and transport services need not make special arrangements beyond usual winter precautions, as no abnormal cold weather is expected.
