Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that Pakistan is likely to face an intense summer in 2026, with severe heatwave conditions expected across multiple regions.
Officials said temperatures are projected to rise sharply in the coming months, with prolonged periods of extreme heat anticipated in both upper areas and major urban centers.
Despite above-normal rainfall recorded in April, early data shows an unusual spike in temperatures, indicating a rapid shift toward hotter conditions nationwide.
Deputy Director Muhammad Faheem Khan confirmed that early heatwave alerts have already been issued for areas including Lahore and parts of Sindh.
He added that districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, and Charsadda could experience significant heatwave impacts during April and May.
Authorities are coordinating with Provincial Disaster Management Authority to ensure timely alerts, while citizens are advised to avoid outdoor exposure and take precautions.
