Karachi police have arrested nine suspects during a major raid targeting an extortion network linked to Lyari gang wars.
SSP Imran, chief of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Karachi, said the operation was conducted on Saturday night following information from Rehan, a suspect previously arrested in an encounter. Rehan had sustained injuries during his earlier arrest.
According to SSP Imran, the police arrest nine suspects included key figures such as Jawad alias Waja Qadri and Mullah Shahzeb. Both were wanted in multiple criminal cases and affiliated with an extortion network run by Wasiullah Lakho and Abdul Samad Kathiawari, who are reportedly hiding abroad.
Rehan, who is also implicated in extortion and firing incidents in Jamshed Quarters, made several disclosures during questioning. He revealed details about the gangโs involvement in extortion cases across Karachi and their operational links.
The raid resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of weapons, the SIU chief said. Police have registered ten cases against the nine arrested suspects.
SSP Imran also noted that a total of 17 people were detained during the operation, and criminal records of eight individuals were verified. The police arrest nine operation marks a significant step in disrupting organized criminal activities in Karachi.
Authorities emphasized that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle dangerous criminal networks and improve law and order in the city. Police urged citizens to provide information about criminal activities to assist in future operations.
This successful operation underlines the commitment of Karachiโs law enforcement agencies to combating extortion, gang violence, and organized crime in the region.
