Karachi Police Inspector Arrested For Allegedly Killing Second Wife

A police inspector has been arrested for allegedly killing his second wife in Karachi, officials confirmed on Saturday. The accused was identified as Inspector Tabassum Ahmed, who was posted to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

According to police officials, the incident took place a day earlier at the victimโ€™s parentsโ€™ home. Inspector Tabassum reportedly arrived there to take his wife back with him. When she refused to go, he allegedly opened fire, killing her on the spot. Police confirmed that the victim was the second wife of the accused.

The deceased womanโ€™s daughter witnessed the incident and provided a statement to police. She told investigators that her mother was about to enter a vehicle when the accused arrived. He asked her mother to accompany him. After she declined, he allegedly fired at her. The daughter also said the suspect tried to shoot her, but she managed to escape by running inside the house.

CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced and is being examined as part of the investigation. Police said the victim had been living with her parents for nearly a year due to ongoing marital disputes.

Following the incident, the Additional Inspector General (IG) Karachi ordered the immediate arrest of the suspect. SSP Central Zeeshan Shafique Siddiqui formed a special team, which later apprehended Inspector Tabassum. Police recovered a government-issued 9mm pistol from his possession.

Authorities revealed that the accused did not report for duty on the day of the incident. He was assigned to investigate extortion and murder cases and had been officially issued the weapon by the SIU.

During initial questioning, Inspector Tabassum reportedly claimed he doubted his second wifeโ€™s character. He alleged that he suspected her of talking to someone else. Police said this claim is part of the ongoing investigation and will be reviewed through evidence.

SSP Central confirmed that strict legal action will be taken. Further legal proceedings are currently underway, and the case is being pursued under relevant laws.

The incident has raised serious concerns over the misuse of official weapons and domestic violence cases involving law enforcement personnel.
