Police successfully recovered three hostages during a major operation against bandits in the Katcha area, officials confirmed. The operation followed reports of a gang attack on a passenger bus.
Earlier, armed outlaws had abducted 18 passengers from a bus traveling on the Guddu-Kashmore link road. Police immediately launched a search operation in the region. So far, 13 passengers have been rescued, while the body of one passenger was recovered from sugarcane farmland.
In addition to the three hostages, two doctors who were treating injured bandits were also recovered from criminal hideouts. Authorities are investigating whether the doctors had gone voluntarily or were kidnapped.
During the operation, police arrested 20 suspected facilitators of the bandits and recovered heavy weapons, including a rocket launcher and an anti-aircraft gun. Officials said the area has long been a hub for gangs involved in kidnapping for ransom, robberies, and attacks on law enforcement.
Social media reports suggest the bandits tried to escape using boats toward Rahim Yar Khan, Rojhan city, and other parts of Rajanpur district. Police have cordoned off the area and continue to pursue the outlaws.
The three hostagesโ recovery marks a significant success in ongoing efforts to curb bandit activity in the Katcha region. Authorities urged locals to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
This operation underscores the persistent threat posed by criminal gangs in remote areas. Police have vowed to continue strict action against outlaws and ensure the safety of residents and travelers.
