Power Division Warns Public Against Misuse of Electricity Bill QR Code Information

The Power Division has issued an urgent warning to the public regarding the misuse of electricity bill information and QR Code data. The ministry urged consumers to avoid sharing sensitive details on unauthorized websites and unofficial digital platforms.

The warning was shared by Power Division spokesperson Zafar Ayub on social media platform X. Along with the statement, he posted a graphic marked โ€œFakeโ€ that appeared to promote an electricity subsidy registration process.

According to the Power Division, some individuals are using electricity bill details and QR Code information for unauthorized purposes. Officials said these activities may involve illegal attempts to collect personal data under the name of government subsidy programs.

The ministry advised consumers not to share any QR Code linked to electricity bills on third-party websites, paper forms, social media pages, or unofficial mobile applications. Officials stressed that only approved government channels should be used for subsidy-related registrations and information.

The Power Division said reports of misuse had already been forwarded to relevant law enforcement agencies. Authorities are now monitoring the situation to prevent fraud and protect consumers from misinformation campaigns.

Officials warned that sharing personal information with unverified sources could expose consumers to scams and misuse of their data. They added that fake registration campaigns are designed to appear official and may confuse the public.

The ministry also clarified that no subsidy-related process should be completed through unauthorized platforms. Consumers were advised to verify all announcements through official government communication channels before sharing any information.

The Power Division emphasized that any request for electricity subsidy registration through unofficial means should be treated with caution. Citizens were encouraged to report suspicious messages, websites, or forms to the authorities immediately.

The warning comes as the government increases efforts to protect people from digital fraud linked to welfare and subsidy programs. Officials believe public awareness is necessary to stop scammers from exploiting electricity bill QR Code data.

Consumers have also been advised to stay alert while using online services related to utility bills. Authorities said protecting QR Code information is important to prevent identity misuse and financial fraud.
