ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has prepared a petition against government formation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Sources said the partyโs legal team has completed the petition for the Azad Kashmir High Court. The petition seeks to stop the formation of a new government in the region.
According to PPP sources, the party leadership has approved the legal move. The petition is expected to be filed within the next 48 hours.
The PPP will ask the court to issue a restraining order against the formation of a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.
The party will argue that the AJK Assembly remains incomplete. It will seek a halt to government formation until elections are held in the remaining districts.
Sources said the PPP plans to highlight the situation in two districts of the Poonch division. Elections have not yet been held in these areas.
The party believes the AJK Assembly cannot be considered complete without elections in the remaining districts. It will present this position before the court as part of its petition.
PPP sources further argued that forming a government before completing the electoral process would be unconstitutional. The party will therefore seek judicial intervention to prevent the process.
The legal challenge comes as the PML-N continues consultations over government formation in AJK. The party is also considering its candidate for the position of AJK prime minister.
The political developments follow the recent regional elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Parties are now working to establish the next government in the region.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry previously said the PML-N had secured 24 seats in the regional elections.
The latest move by the PPP could create further uncertainty over the formation of the AJK government. The courtโs response to the petition may influence the next political steps.
The PPP is expected to formally submit its petition within the announced timeframe. The legal proceedings could determine whether government formation proceeds as planned.
The dispute also highlights the importance of completing elections across all relevant constituencies. The issue of the remaining Poonch division seats is now central to the PPPโs legal argument.
