A recent report submitted to the court recommends an immediate examination of the PTI Founder’s eyes. Barrister Salman Safdar visited Adiala Jail and met with Imran Khan to assess his health.
The seven-page report stated that the PTI Founder’s eyes should be examined by Dr. Faisal Sultan, Dr. Asim Yousuf, or another expert ophthalmologist. It noted that Imran Khan’s right eye has lost almost complete vision.
According to the report, the PTI leader told Safdar he could now see only 10 to 15 percent from his right eye. He mentioned that both eyes were normal three to four months ago, but later he experienced blurred vision.
“The jail officials didn’t take it seriously when the eyesight issue started during the last three months,” the report said. Imran Khan repeatedly complained to Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, but no action was taken.
Dr. Muhammad Arif from PIMS later examined him, confirming that the right eye’s vision had dropped to only 15 percent. The report also recommended providing books to the PTI founder due to his solitary confinement and lack of television.
The Supreme Court had previously allowed Barrister Salman Safdar to meet the PTI leader in jail. He was appointed as a ‘friend of the court’ to inspect Imran Khan’s condition, living facilities, and access to necessary amenities.
The Chief Justice instructed that Safdar should not face any delay or obstruction during the jail visit. If any difficulties arose, he was directed to immediately contact the Chief Justice’s personal staff officer.
The report emphasizes the urgency of addressing the health concerns of the PTI founder. Observers noted that timely medical attention is critical, especially given the rapid deterioration of the PTI Founder’s eyes in recent months.
Authorities are expected to act on the recommendations to ensure proper care, highlighting the importance of monitoring the welfare of detainees in state custody.
