Punjab Traffic Police issued more than 1.24 million driving licences across the province in January 2026. Officials also shared updated details about licence charges and the validity fee structure.
According to traffic police data, over 440,000 learner licences were issued last month. Around 400,000 regular driving licences were also processed. In addition, nearly 390,000 citizens renewed their licences during January. These renewals included learner, regular, and international driving licences.
Traffic police officials said more than 2,500 people applied for replacements of lost licences. During the same period, over 4,500 international driving permits were also issued. The figures show a steady rise in demand for driving-related services across Punjab.
DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir said holding a valid driving licence is mandatory under the law. He warned that driving without a licence is a criminal offence. Such violations can lead to heavy fines and legal action.
He also clarified that the e-driving licence carries the same legal status as the physical card. Citizens were encouraged to use digital services to save time and effort. The e-licence can be shown during routine checks without any issue.
Officials explained the updated fee details for car driving licences. For a one-year licence, applicants must pay Rs150 for the test. After passing, Rs1,350 is charged for issuance. Courier charges of Rs480 are added. The total amount comes to Rs1,980, including the validity fee.
For citizens seeking longer coverage, a three-year driving licence costs Rs4,680. This amount includes all processing charges and the applicable validity fee. Traffic police said the fee structure remains uniform across Punjab.
Authorities stressed that the validity fee depends on the licence duration. Citizens were advised to choose the duration carefully. Renewing a licence on time helps avoid penalties and additional costs.
Punjab residents can also download their e-driving licence easily. The service is available on the official website of the Driving Licence Issuance Management System. Users need to enter their CNIC number and date of birth.
After verification, a PDF copy of the licence can be downloaded on a mobile phone. Officials said this option is especially helpful for quick access and record keeping.
Traffic police urged citizens to stay compliant with licence rules. Paying the correct validity fee and renewing on time ensures smooth driving and legal safety.
